Is Miles Davis still alive? You would think so. The number of remastered CDs of Miles Davis tunes which have been released in 2003 is extraordinary.
Yet, the newly released tracks all are originals dating from the 1970's.
Well, five musicians who played with Miles Davis have reunited and, along with the sixth wheel, pianist Michael Wolff, bring us the first and only
new recording rekindling the Miles spirit.
This lineup reads like the Bronx Bombers of 1927 and 1961:
Michael Henderson on bass
Michael Wolff on keys
Sonny Fortune on sax and flute
Barry Finnerty on guitar
Ndugu Chancler on drums
Badal Roy on tablas
Appropriately titled Rebirth, this album was recorded live on July 12, 2003 at the famed Yoshis in Oakland, California, before an overflow crowd. It featured some of the great Miles standards from the Electric Years,
as well as original compositions by Michael Wolff.
So, hang on to your seat and come along for the funk.
